Well, imagine a weekend of anime, manga, cosplay, K-pop, fandom, and gaming. Dozens of activities for anyone interested in this part of Asian culture! An international community of people who are excited for you to join and dive into a world of inspiration and imagination. A playful, colorful, diverse adventure like nothing you’ve seen before.
If you’re a keen newbie, then you might use a bit of background!
The word “cosplay” was coined in 1984 by Nobuyuki Takahashi after he attended the World Science Fiction Convention in LA. At Worldcon, he saw hundreds of costume fans, and so he wanted to create a word that reflected their culture. “Cosplay” (コスプレ, kosupure) is a Japanese portmanteau of the English terms “costume” and “play”.
The term describes the performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear outfits and fashion accessories to represent a specific character. Inspiration is typically drawn from sources like anime, cartoons, comic books, manga, television series, and video games. Since the 1990s, the number of people cosplaying as a hobby has significantly increased and the activity has become an important and well-known aspect of popular culture in Japan but is also seen in other parts of Asia and the Western world.
At Evedo we are happy to announce that we are now partners of AnimeS World Stars 2021! How fun!!
One of our visions is to create a thriving ecosystem where everyone from the events industry can collaborate in synergy, and so we love supporting all sorts of different events! Small, big, offline, online, and from all types of industries and communities. We do work a lot with music festivals but it is definitely a desire of ours to expand Evedo’s horizon with more opportunities like AnimeS World Stars.
AnimeS World Stars is an international annual anime and manga convention that’s going to be held in Sofia on July 3rd and 4th. AnimeS.bg is the first and only Bulgarian organization that is certified to provide world cosplay qualifications at its events! For its 15th edition, gaming, cosplay and K-pop fans alike will be getting together at the Japanese hotel “Marinela”.
The team behind this interesting event has picked “Marinela” because of the venue’s much-fitting heritage and character. The hotel’s Japanese garden was created based on the model of the iconic “New Otani” hotel in Tokyo. The history of the garden there dates back over 400 years ago when samurai lord Kato Kiyomasa owned a residence onsite.
The beautiful 10-acre-ground in Japan features several ancient stone lanterns, scarlet bridges over koi ponds, a stone garden, a waterfall, and a plethora of flowers that bloom or change colors from season to season. Found in the heart of a hectic and noisy metropolis like Tokyo, this peaceful and luscious space is like a safe haven where you can escape and recharge. And the garden in Sofia follows the same concept! It’s famous for its charming pink sour cherry trees (sakura) which begin to blossom during the springtime each year.
The 2-day conference taking place in Bulgaria’s capital has a busy and exciting schedule planned! Attendees should expect many different activities dedicated to anime, manga, cosplay, K-pop, gaming, art, and music. Moreover, there will be discussions and talks with international speakers and a variety of prizes!
Want to hear something even more exciting? During AnimeS World Stars 2021, two people will be chosen to represent Bulgaria at the World Cosplay Summit in Japan!
The judges on the jury are a group of selected professional cosplayers from all over the world who will be joining in person. Furthermore, a K-pop dance show will take place, showcasing some of the best groups in the country. Last but not least, there will be a gaming zone with tournaments for League of Legends and CS:GO.
